OSCE training course on media literacy is being held in Ashgabat

A two-day training course for media literacy trainers has started at the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat. The event, which is taking place on October 29 -30, aims to train specialists in the field of media and information literacy.

Representatives of Kazakhstan act as international experts: Adil Dzhalilov, Director of the International Center for Journalism MediaNet and Factcheck.kz, and his deputy Duman Smakov. Russian expert Ivan Pechishchev, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor of the Department of Journalism at Perm State National Research University, joined the training remotely.

The course program covers a wide range of relevant topics: from the basic principles of media literacy to practical skills for countering disinformation. Particular attention is paid to issues of safety in social networks, fact-checking methods and training techniques.

The event was opened by the Head of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat, Ambassador John MacGregor. Over the course of two days, participants will gain theoretical knowledge and complete practical tasks, including working with cases to identify disinformation and mastering advanced internet search tools.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be awarded certificates confirming their qualifications as media literacy trainers.
