The “all-inclusive” system in Turkish hotels may undergo serious changes due to excessive wastefulness of vacationers. Mustafa Korkutat, a representative of the Ankara Young Businessmen Association, reported that tourists often take more food than they can eat, as a result of which up to 65% of the food ends up being thrown away, “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” reports with reference to Turkiye.

According to Korkutaty, between 220 and 400 grams of food waste is generated per guest every day. Nationally, this results in losses of around 50 billion Turkish lira (approximately 1,5 billion USD) annually. He described this behavior by tourists as “consumer terrorism”.

To solve the problem, it is proposed to reduce the number of hotels operating on the “all-inclusive” system and introduce a new service concept. According to this idea, hotels could cooperate with local restaurants. Tourists would be offered to take evening walks around resort towns followed by dinner at partner establishments. This approach, according to Korkutaty, will also have a positive effect on the income of local store owners.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that Turkish hoteliers have raised the issue of the need to revise the “all-inclusive” system. Previously, the option of paying for the actual consumption was considered as an alternative.
