Iron Throne from “Game of Thrones” sold for 1,49 million USD

A large-scale auction dedicated to the cult HBO series “Game of Thrones” was held from October 10 to 12 in Dallas, USA. The organizer was the auction house Heritage, which presented more than 900 lots with authentic props from the series, Mail.ru reports.

The main event of the auction was the sale of the Iron Throne, the symbol of power over the Seven Kingdoms. After six minutes of bidding, a replica of the throne, made of plastic and covered with metallic paint with precious stones, was sold for an impressive 1,49 million USD. It is worth noting that the original throne featured in the series was destroyed in the final episode.

Other notable lots included Jon Snow's “Longclaw” sword, which sold for 400 thousand USD, and his suit with its distinctive cloak, which went under the hammer for 337,5 thousand USD Joe Maddalena, Heritage's executive vice president, emphasized the uniqueness of the lots: “These are extraordinary treasures created by the “Emmy” Award-winning costume and prop designers who worked tirelessly to adapt George R.R. Martin's remarkable novels. People wanted a piece of the “Game of Thrones” magic.

The auction attracted over 4500 bidders from around the world, with total sales reaching an impressive 21,1 million USD.
