President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov pardoned 736 convicted citizens ahead of the 33rd anniversary of the country's independence on September 27. This was reported by the news program «Watan» of Turkmen television.
During a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that on the eve of major state holidays in Turkmenistan, pardon actions are held, within the framework of which citizens who sincerely repent of their actions are released. The head of state added that these humane actions are carried out consistently and free convicts from punishment.
Secretary of the State Security Council Begench Gundogdyev reported on the work done to prepare proposals on issues of citizenship and pardon. After hearing the report, the President of Turkmenistan signed a Decree on pardoning 736 citizens.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov instructed the Secretary of the State Security Council, Minister of Defense Begench Gundogdyev, together with the heads of law enforcement agencies, to carry out all necessary measures for the speedy release of pardoned persons and their return home to their families. Also, the hyakims of velayats, etraps and cities were instructed to provide the pardoned with work.
