Briefing on the creation of a climate center for Central Asian countries in Ashgabat

A briefing on the establishment of the Regional Center for Climate Technologies for Central Asian Countries in Ashgabat was held yesterday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The topic of developing renewable energy sources in Turkmenistan was also covered. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The briefing was attended by heads and representatives of relevant departments of Turkmenistan, diplomatic missions and representative offices of international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan M. Byashimova in her speech noted the current areas of future activities of the Regional Center for Climate Technologies and the importance of the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan in this area. The main goal of the Center is the introduction and application of climate technologies in the countries of the Central Asian region and promoting technological advancement of the region in adapting to climate change.

The participants were addressed by the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko, who emphasized that this initiative is a significant step in consolidating joint efforts to achieve common goals in the field of environmental protection.

During the briefing, the main areas and prospects for cooperation in the field of environmental protection, climate change and ecology were also considered.

In addition, the agenda included issues of rational use of natural resources, increasing energy efficiency, strengthening and actively using the potential of alternative “green” energy in Turkmenistan, the source notes.
