Youth from the eastern region of Turkmenistan discussed climate challenges at LCOY

The National Youth Conference on Climate Change (LCOY) was held yesterday at the Seyitnazar Seydi Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute.

The conference was attended by young people from Lebap velayat, representatives of UN agencies in Turkmenistan, British Ambassador to Turkmenistan Stephen Conlon, young SDG ambassadors, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Environmental Protection. The speakers highlighted the work of the UN to address climate change and the challenges it poses to humanity, noting the important role of international cooperation in this area. Particular attention was paid to involving young people in discussing and addressing climate issues, as well as supporting youth initiatives and projects that promote sustainable development and combat climate change.

After the plenary session, work was organized in discussion sections, where issues related to the protection of biodiversity in the natural zones of the Lebap velayat, the study and protection of rare species in the region, and maintaining the ecological balance were discussed.

Also, during the conference, an exchange of views took place on effective methods of environmental education of young people in secondary schools and higher education institutions, as well as on the results expected from the implementation of these methods.

In conclusion, the moderators who led the discussion sections reported on the results achieved in the discussions. As a result, proposals were received from Lebap youth, which will be included in the Declaration of the Youth of Turkmenistan, the source notes.
