A large-scale fire broke out in Cyprus due to a five-year-old boy's careless handling of a lighter. The fire covered an area of about five hectares, destroying a significant portion of wild vegetation in the vicinity of Limassol. In addition to natural losses, the flames did not spare the property of a local resident, destroying his house and car. This was reported by "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" with reference to TASS.
The investigation into the incident revealed an attempt by the child's mother to mislead the investigation. Initially, the woman tried to shift the blame to an unknown driver who allegedly fled the scene. However, the vigilance of the police and subsequent interrogation forced her to admit the true cause of the fire.
Law enforcement agencies charged the mother with two counts: providing false information and negligence in permitting the child to gain access to a dangerous object.
