A large-scale operation to rescue a kitten trapped in a storm drain has been launched in Edirne, Türkiye. Concerned citizens who heard the animal's pitiful cries drew attention to the situation, daily.afisha.ru reports with reference to Anadolu.
Initial attempts by the city veterinary service to save the kitten were unsuccessful. Veterinarians had to turn to specialists from the water supply department.
Heavy machinery was required to free the animal. An excavator destroyed a section of the road and sidewalk, after which a hole was made in the pipe, permitting the kitten to be extracted.
Edirne Mayor Filiz Gencan Akin personally oversaw the rescue operations, expressing gratitude to all those involved in the operation and emphasizing the importance of protecting animals.
The rescued kitten was given the symbolic name Şans, which means “luck” in Turkish. After the successful completion of the operation, the mayor personally took care of the reunification of the kitten with its mother cat.
