A new world record for the amount of venom secreted by a snake at one time has been set at the Australian Reptile Park. The main hero of this event was a coastal taipan named Cyclone, which produced 5,2 grams of the toxic substance, which is three times the usual amount for this species. The coastal taipan, found in coastal areas of Australia and growing to two metres in length, is known as one of the most venomous snakes in the world. The amount of venom released by Cyclone could potentially kill up to four hundred people, highlighting the extreme danger of these reptiles.
Billy Collett, manager of the reptile park, noted Cyclone's unpredictable nature, which creates constant tension for park staff when working with the snake.
The previous record for venom secretion was 4,9 grams.
