The Italian prosecutor's office conducted an investigation that revealed serious violations of labor laws among subcontractors working for the famous fashion houses Dior and Armani. This is reported by daily.afisha.ru with reference to The Wall Street Journal.
The investigation found that Chinese workers producing products for these brands were subject to exploitation. For making the bags, which retail for about 2780 USD, workers were paid only 57 USD. Many employees did not have the necessary documents and worked in difficult conditions, often around the clock. To improve productivity, protective devices were removed from equipment.
Prosecutors accused Dior of lacking control over its subcontractors and failing to ensure fair working conditions. Giorgio Armani also came under fire, with workers at their suppliers receiving just 99 USD for items sold for more than 1900 USD.
As a result of the investigation, an Italian court appointed a temporary administration to manage subcontractors Dior and Armani for a period of one year. Companies are permitted to continue operating, but under strict supervision.
