K-Pop group SEVENTEEN, whose album became the world's best-selling album in 2023, has been appointed UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Youth. The appointment ceremony was held on June 26 at the Organization's headquarters in Paris with the participation of Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, reports unesco.org.
SEVENTEEN's appointment follows their outstanding performance at the 13th UNESCO Youth Forum in Paris in November 2023. The group made a strong impression on the audience, consisting of representatives of 194 UNESCO member countries, youth delegates and numerous fans. SEVENTEEN not only performed an exciting concert, but also gave an inspiring speech, focusing on the need for unity and activism among the younger generation.
SEVENTEEN demonstrated its social responsibility back in 2022 when, together with the National Commission of the Republic of Korea for UNESCO, they launched the #GoingTogether campaign. This initiative has made a significant contribution to the development of education: it has opened new training centers in Timor-Leste and provided significant support to educational programs in Malawi.
As newly appointed UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors for Youth, SEVENTEEN members have committed themselves to using their popularity and creativity to spread the Organization's ideals and mission.
