Tuesday's plane incident in Malawi turned into a tragedy. Rescuers discovered the wreckage of a crashed plane, on board of which was the country's Vice President Saulos Chilima along with nine accompanying persons. According to Kenyan radio station Capital FM, they all died in the crash.

According to media reports, the plane carrying Chilima disappeared from radar shortly after taking off from the capital Lilongwe on the morning of June 10. The Vice President was on his way to attend the funeral of former Justice Minister Ralph Kasambara. The wreckage of the aircraft was found only the next day in the Chikangawa forest.

51 years old Saulos Klaus Chilima has served as Malawi's vice president since 2014. He was married and had two children. Among other victims of the disaster is the former first lady of the country, Patricie Shanil Muluzi.

Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera has already declared national mourning in connection with the death of the vice-president and nine people accompanying him. On his instructions, national flags will be flown at half-mast until the day of Saulos Chilima's funeral.
