The heat in Turkey this summer is likely to break records, reports Hürriyet newspaper. Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Faculty of Meteorology member Professor Orhan Şen said temperatures could reach 42-43 degrees Celsius in July and August.

“It will be even hotter than now,” Shen said. “Last year in Istanbul it was 41.3 degrees, which was the hottest day in 85 years. This year it will most likely be 42-43 degrees. Be prepared!”

Shen noted that sudden meteorological changes such as heat waves are becoming more common due to global warming. “It’s a system,” he said. “If it lasts for 5 days, 5 degrees above average, it’s called a heat wave. We’ll be experiencing them a lot this year.”

According to Shen, the summer will not only be hot, but also with localized heavy rain, flooding and hail. “No matter how hot the summer is, the winter will be just as cold,” he said.
