Immersing yourself in your favorite activity not only brings pleasure, but also has a beneficial effect on your health. This conclusion was reached by Miriam Mosing, associate professor of behavioral genetics at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. Mail.ru reports this.

In an interview with The Conversation, she noted that people who are passionate about something are more likely to experience a state of “flow”. This state is characterized by complete concentration of attention, absorption in the process and a sense of limitless possibilities.

According to a study by scientists at Southwest Jiaotong University in China, the tendency to “flow” is closely related to a strong heart and blood vessels.

Other work by Mosing and her team found that engaged people were less likely to suffer from heart disease, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Researchers believe that “flow” helps a person resist the damaging effects of stress, which negatively affects both physical and mental health.
