From July 2024, all new cars, light trucks and vans sold in the European Union will be required to be equipped with “black boxes”. These devices are designed to help understand the causes of accidents by storing important information about the events preceding and following the accident.

The “black box” will record a number of key parameters, including: vehicle speed, engine operation, pressure on the gas and brake pedals, steering angle, status of security systems, and the moment the airbags are deployed.

Unlike flight recorders, “black boxes” in cars will not record sound.

Data from the device can only be read after it is removed from the vehicle. Connection to remote monitoring systems is not provided. Euro-pulse.ru reports this.
