In Japan, the Shiba Inu Kabosu, known as the heroine of the Doge meme, died at the age of 19. Kabosu's owner, Atsuko Sato, announced the pet's death on her blog. According to her, the dog died calmly, in her sleep, at 7:50 am Japan time, writes snob.ru.

In 2022, Kabosu was diagnosed with a number of diseases: chronic lymphoid leukemia, as well as inflammation of the liver and biliary tract.

Kabosu was born in 2005. In 2009, she was adopted from a shelter by Atsuko Sato, who started a blog about her pets. Kabos' real fame came in 2013, when a photo of her with the incorrect caption Doge instead of Dog went viral and turned into a meme.

The image of Kabosu quickly spread across the Internet, spawning many variations and becoming one of the most recognizable Internet phenomena.

Also in 2013, programmers created the Dogecoin cryptocurrency using Kabosu's image. Today, Dogecoin is one of the ten largest cryptocurrencies with a capitalization of more than 23 billion USD.

Elon Musk, known for his partiality towards cryptocurrencies, acquired Dogecoin and said that this coin could be used to pay for goods and services from Tesla, Starlink, Starship and X.
