Turkmenistan intends to create a powerful bioindustry sector in all areas of biotechnology. This is provided for by the State Program for the Integrated Development of Biotechnology for 2024-2028, approved by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, writes the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper.
Within the framework of the program, it is planned to create an infrastructure for the development of the biotechnology industry, implement priority innovation and investment projects, and widely expand production in all sectors of the bioindustry - from biopharmaceuticals to biochips.
The country's Academy of Sciences is already carrying out current developments in dozens of areas. Biopharmaceuticals studies the medicinal properties of native plants. Food biotechnology involves the production of fortified foods and beverages. Agricultural biotechnologies are being developed to increase yields.
Scientists are working to create biosensors and biochips for personalized medicine, biofuels and biodegradable materials. Microorganisms are being studied for soil bioremediation. Turkmen know-how in the field of biotechnology is already attracting scientific interest in the world.
