Turkmenistan takes part in the 10th meeting of UNESCO MOWCAP

The capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar, hosted the 10th meeting of UNESCO's Memory of the World Committee for Asia and the Pacific (MOWCAP). This important event is organized jointly by the Ministry of Culture of Mongolia and the National Commission of Mongolia for UNESCO.

Representatives from 23 member countries of the UNESCO region take part in the work of the next meeting of MOWCAP. Turkmenistan is represented by the executive secretary of the National Commission for UNESCO, Chinar Rustamova.

At the opening ceremony, held in the conference hall of the Tuushin Best Western Premier Hotel, the head of the UNESCO Memory of the World Committee for the Asia-Pacific Region, Qwibae Kim, and the Minister of Culture of Mongolia, Chinbatyn Nomin, addressed the participants. Reports from the heads and experts of the National Commissions of UNESCO member countries for the Asia-Pacific region on the work done to implement the MOWCAP program were also heard.

In particular, the executive secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, Chinar Rustamova, gave an overview speech on the purposeful work done in Turkmenistan over the past three years to implement the international UNESCO Memory of the World program.

As part of the opening ceremony, elections to the governing bodies of the MOWCAP program were also held from candidates proposed by countries in the region.

MOWCAP was established in 1998 as a regional forum for UNESCO's global Memory of the World Programme, with the aim of promoting the preservation of the documentary heritage of the Asia-Pacific region, ensuring universal access to it, and raising awareness of the existence and significance of this heritage.

Currently, in the Asia-Pacific region there are numerous libraries, archives and institutions dealing with the preservation of folk memory of the documentary heritage of the peoples of this region.
