ACI World presented the ranking of the busiest airports and calculated global passenger traffic in 2023

Passenger traffic in 2023 soared by 27% compared to 2022, reaching 8,5 billion people. International tourism (+37%) grew twice as fast as domestic tourism (+20%). This is reported by buyingbusinesstravel.com.ru with reference to ACI World.

Travel spending in 2023 reached a record 10 trillion USD, representing 9,1% of global GDP (World Travel and Tourism Council).

ACI World analysts, having studied data from 2600+ airports in 180+ countries, compiled a rating of the busiest hubs.

First place, like the last two decades, is held by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta.

“Dubai International Airport moved up to second place for the first time, while Tokyo Haneda International Airport moved up from 16th place in 2022 to fifth place in 2023”, said ACI World CEO Luis Felipe de Oliveira. “In addition,

Istanbul and New Delhi airports maintain their leadership, indicating significant progress compared to 2019”.

The following airports also made it into the top 10:

1. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta: 104,7 million passengers; growth by 11,7%;
2. Dubai, UAE: 87 million passengers; growth by 31,7%;
3. Dallas/Fort Worth: 81,8 million passengers; growth by 11,4%;
4. Heathrow, UK: 79,2 million passengers; growth by 28,5%;
5. Tokyo Haneda, Japan: 78,7 million passengers; growth by 55,1%;
6. Denver: 77,8 million passengers; growth by 12,3%;
7. Istanbul, Türkiye: 76 million passengers; growth by 18,3%;
8. Los Angeles: 75,1 million passengers; growth by 13,8%;
9. Chicago O'Hare: 73,9 million passengers; growth by 8,1%;
10. Delhi, India: 72,2 million passengers; an increase of 21,4%.
