Expert Mihail Stolonogov told CentralAsia.news that Turkmenistan will become a full-fledged transport hub of continental importance. He emphasized that the country is carrying out targeted work in this direction.

The expert focused on the efforts of the country’s leadership to bring Turkmenistan to a high international level. Thus, at the 20th meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the SCO member states in 2021, the President of the country announced a number of specific initiatives aimed at the creation and development of intercontinental and regional transport and transit corridors.

At the 70th plenary meeting of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in 2023, at the initiative of Turkmenistan and with the unanimous support of the member states of the organization and co-authorship of 67 countries, a Resolution was adopted according to which the date November 26 was declared World Sustainable Transport Day.

At the Central Asia-China summit, Ashgabat announced its readiness to take part in the development of joint transport projects.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in his speech at the summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Astana, invited the member countries of the organization to use the logistics potential of Turkmenistan.

M. Stolonogov also noted that the main component of the current transformations being gradually carried out in the transport and logistics sector of Turkmenistan is the modernization of infrastructure and technical re-equipment of the automobile, railway, maritime and aviation sectors, which play a major role in passenger and cargo transportation – both domestic and as well as on international routes. Recent examples include the arrival at the disposal of the Turkmen Airlines agency of Boeing 777-300 ER passenger airliners and Airbus cargo aircraft, which are already carrying out international transportation.

The key vector of the foreign policy of the President of Turkmenistan is the establishment of the region of Central Asia and the Caspian Basin as a strong link of strategic stability in the Eurasian space, and Turkmenistan as a reliable partner for all interested countries and, of course, a full-fledged transport and transit hub of continental importance, the expert emphasized.
