A 62-year-old American man, who received a genetically modified pig kidney as part of an experimental operation, left the hospital. This was reported by The New York Times, citing information from doctors at the Massachusetts General Hospital, TASS writes.

The man was discharged in stable condition two weeks after surgery on March 21. At the moment, he has no signs of rejection of the transplanted organ, but doctors are in no hurry to draw hasty conclusions about the success of the operation.

It is worth noting that two previous patients who received genetically modified pig hearts unfortunately died several months after the operation due to complications.

The World Health Organization estimates that about 850 million people worldwide suffer from various kidney diseases.
