The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the regular session of the Intergovernmental Committee on Physical Education and Sports (CIGEPS), which took place from April 3 to 4 at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

The delegation included the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to UNESCO Maksat Charyev and the head of the international department of the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Physical Culture and Sports Sh. Serayev.

Let us recall that on November 16, 2023, during the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference, Turkmenistan was elected a member of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee on Physical Education and Sports for 2023-2027.

The session was attended by the Chairman of CIGEPS, Minister of Sports of Chile Jaime Pizarro, UNESCO Deputy Director-General for Social and Human Sciences Gabriela Ramos, former Chairman of CIGEPS, Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Farid Gaibov, heads of relevant UNESCO departments, representatives of member states of the Intergovernmental Committee on Physical Education and Sports (CIGEPS) and non-governmental organizations.

This session is dedicated to the follow-up to the 7th International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sports, during which more than 110 Member States endorsed the MINEPS VII Baku Outcome Document on the establishment of the Fit for Life Alliance.

The Global Alliance brings together representatives from the private and public sectors to support the implementation of the Fit for Life program at the national and international levels.

Fit for Life's areas of focus include developing the social and environmental legacy of major sporting events, strengthening the evidence base for the impact of sport, scaling up investment in sport, advocating for gender equality and safeguards, combating racism, empowering youth and unlocking the potential of the African sport ecosystem.
