The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the global methane conference in Geneva. The composition included representatives of various ministries and departments, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, as well as the State Concern “Turkmengaz”.

Within the framework of the conference, applied meetings on the Central Asian region were held, as reported in the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper.

The forum was organized by the Global Methane Initiative and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in partnership with the Global Methane Centre, the Climate and Clean Air Coalition and other international structures.

Within the framework of the event, the annual meeting of the gas expert group was held at the site of the Committee on Sustainable Energy to discuss the promotion of hydrogen energy in UNECE member countries.

Particular attention was paid to discussing the role of natural gas in creating sustainable energy systems, including in the context of ensuring the industrial development of states and regions, and achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that the content of methane in the atmosphere is determined by the ratio of its entry into the air as a result of emissions, emission and removal - runoff, and depends on the variability of the substance over a certain time period. Emissions are formed both due to natural biochemical and geochemical processes in nature, and due to anthropogenic causes. The removal of methane from the atmosphere is determined by the combination of its chemical destruction in the air and absorption by the soil.

Let us remind that in Turkmenistan, to promote relevant activities, there is an intersectoral commission created on the basis of a Presidential Decree in order to strengthen control and evaluate the effectiveness of work carried out in various sectors of the economy in the field of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including methane.
