Acting Resident Representative of the UN Development Program in Turkmenistan Tomica Paovic spoke about further support for Turkmenistan in the implementation of sustainable development goals. This was reported by centralasia.news with reference to the newspaper “Neutral Turkmenistan”.

Strategic cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and UNDP continues to strengthen. This is demonstrated by long-term agreements, the purpose of which is to implement national development goals, noted Tomica Paovic.

Long-term cooperation has made it possible to implement many projects in a variety of fields and utilize hundreds of millions of dollars in investments. The signing of recent agreements between Turkmenistan and UNDP will complement joint efforts to achieve sustainable development goals. They touch upon such issues as the promotion of human rights, digital transformation of various spheres of the country’s life, regulation of the financial market, development of medicine, and support for youth.

As T. Paovic emphasized, the work of UNDP is based on the principle of the rule of law and the protection of human rights. The program will intensify interaction with the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan, and will also assist the country’s Central Election Commission by familiarizing the structure with the best examples from world experience in conducting elections.

Together with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Turkmenistan, UNDP will begin to implement the national component of a regional project to support vulnerable youth facing social challenges. In addition, support for the financial sector and the country's statistical potential will continue.

Within the framework of promoting the digitalization of the public sector, UNDP provided the Government of the country with the necessary assistance to automate customs clearance procedures. Extension of the Single Window for Export-Import Operations project until the end of 2024 will simplify interdepartmental business processes.
