The award ceremony for young ambassadors of the Sustainable Development Goals took place in Ashgabat, at the UN building.

The ceremony was attended by over 60 young people who, through various initiatives, projects and outreach efforts, demonstrated exemplary leadership and initiative in addressing key social and environmental issues.

Young SDG Ambassadors is an initiative of the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator, implemented jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan. It aims to unite the country's youth to increase understanding of the SDGs.

Since 2019, more than 100 enthusiasts from all over Turkmenistan have taken part in the “Young SDG Ambassadors” competition. The third 2022-2024 cohort of 18 participants will complete their mission this July and look forward to passing the torch to their successors: the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator will soon announce the selection of new SDG Ambassadors for 2024-2025.

Today, SDG ambassadors participate in high-level events held by national and international organizations in Turkmenistan. At the forums, SDG ambassadors share their vision and actively promote the principles of sustainable development.

Proudly celebrating the achievements of the young SDG Ambassadors, the UN Country Team in Turkmenistan continues to support and empower the next generation of leaders who will continue the work for a better world for all, Turkmenistan: The Golden Age reports.
