The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is developing a plan to ban formaldehyde in keratin hair straightening products. This is reported by gazeta.ru with reference to KFF Health News.

Formaldehyde is a substance recognized as a carcinogen in the United States.

Recent studies have found a link between the use of hair straightening products and an increased risk of breast, ovarian and uterine cancer. Phthalates, parabens and other substances in hair products can also disrupt hormonal balance, potentially increasing the risk of cancer.

In light of new scientific evidence, the FDA is initiating a plan to ban chemical straighteners that contain formaldehyde or can form formaldehyde when heated.
