On the eve of Valentine's Day, the San Antonio Zoo in the United States launched an unusual charity event. Participants can donate money by giving the name of a former lover or simply unpleasant person to a cockroach, rodent or plant. Then those named after their ex-other halves will be fed to the zoo's wards. The corresponding content will be published on the institution’s social networks, Mail.ru reports.
The price for the opportunity to name a cockroach after an ill-wisher will be 10 USD, and a rodent – 25 USD. Vegetables will cost a little less – 5 USD. The ex's name can go to romaine lettuce, kale and other leafy greens.
The donor will receive a digital valentine from the zoo confirming their participation in the event.
The zoo clarified that live rodents are not included in the diet of local inhabitants. They are brought frozen from the mouse farm and stored in the Nutrition Center.
Live cockroaches come from professional breeders. Their colonies are kept in the reptile department.
Last year, a similar event was organized at the Toronto Zoo.
