A press conference was held in Ashgabat by Turkish Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ahmet Demirok, at which he announced the intention of the two countries to increase trade turnover to 5 billion USD, a Turkmenportal correspondent reports.

According to Demirok, trade turnover between the countries has tripled over the past four years and exceeded 2,5 billion USD in 2023. However, the potential of economic ties is much greater, and Turkey and Turkmenistan expect to increase trade turnover to 5 billion USD in the near future.

The diplomat emphasized the contribution of Turkish companies to the development of the infrastructure of Turkmenistan. Over the years of independence, they have implemented about 1080 projects worth over 50 billion USD in Turkmenistan.

– Turkish companies have built many important infrastructure projects - power plants, power lines, highways, housing, shopping centers, universities, schools, public buildings, hotels, factories, canals, museums, parks, hospitals and seaports. At the same time, they share their experience with Turkmen partners”, Demirok noted.

It was also noted that in 2023, Turkish contractors completed 7 new projects worth 3,2 billion USD in Turkmenistan. Currently, 21 projects worth 4,4 billion USD are being implemented.

In addition, Türkiye is an important transit hub for the supply of Turkmen energy resources to Europe. The parties plan to expand cooperation in the field of transportation of natural gas and electricity.

Cultural interaction is also actively developing. Turkish TV series, films and music are popular in Turkmenistan. In the future, the countries are planning joint film projects.

– In 2024, declared in Turkmenistan as the Year of “The Fount of Wisdom of Magtymguly Fragi”, and in connection with the assignment of Anau to the status of the cultural capital of the Turkic world, a number of events are planned. Türkiye is ready to take an active part in them, emphasized Ahmet Demirok.
