A native of Turkmenistan, Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko shared a photo of Ashgabat at night from aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The photo was published by the Roscosmos State Corporation on its official page on the social network.
“White, yellow, red and green - a whole palette of shades of light permeates the darkness. The bright lights of the city merge together with the arteries of the roads and resemble a large constellation,” the photograph was published with such a comment.
Kononenko was born and raised in the city of Turkmenabat in eastern Turkmenistan. Currently he is an instructor-test cosmonaut, commander of the cosmonaut corps of the State Corporation for Space Activities "Roscosmos". In 2019 he was awarded the title of Hero of Turkmenistan.
