A study by American scientists showed that a 1-liter bottle of water can contain up to 240 thousand plastic particles, including nanoplastics. This is 100 times more than previously thought. AiF reports this with reference to Bloomberg.

Nanoplastics are plastic particles less than 1 micrometer in size. They are so small that they can penetrate human blood and cells, causing organ damage. These particles can also pass through the placenta - from the mother’s body to the child.

The study was carried out using a new microscopy method using an algorithm based on a large array of data. 25 liter water bottles from three American manufacturers were analyzed. Plastic particles ranging from 110 to 370 thousand pieces were found in them, of which 90% were nanoplastics.
