On the eve of the upcoming New Year 2024, the head of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) office in Turkmenistan, Ayna Seyitlieva, sent warm congratulations to the Government and people of the country, writes “Neutral Turkmenistan”.

Looking back at 2023, Seyitlieva noted with pleasure the joint achievements and fruitful cooperation with the Government of Turkmenistan for the sustainable development of the country.

In particular, work was carried out to review progress in the implementation of the Program of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD). The review confirmed that inclusive sustainable development is not possible without prioritizing human rights, the empowerment of women and girls, addressing inequalities and the needs of women and youth.

In addition, on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the ICPD, a high-level conference was held in Ashgabat with the participation of UNFPA national partners. It discussed the achievement of sustainable development goals and the acceleration of necessary actions in this direction.

In October, a delegation from Turkmenistan took part in the regional conference on population and development in Geneva. The forum noted Turkmenistan’s contribution to the implementation of the Program of Action through its strategic partnership with UNFPA.

An important result of 2023 was the unanimous election of Turkmenistan to the Commission on Population and Development for 2024-2028. This provides an opportunity to contribute to global efforts to promote sustainable development.

In addition, preliminary results of the 2022 population census in Turkmenistan were published. Analysis of disaggregated data is expected soon, which will serve as the basis for national policies and monitoring progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

UNFPA and the Ministry of Health of Turkmenistan continued cooperation within the framework of the implementation of the National Strategy for the Protection of Reproductive Health, Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health.

In conclusion, Ayna Seyitlieva wished that the coming 2024 would bring prosperity and success that would contribute to the well-being and development of Turkmenistan.
