NASA's “Psyche” spacecraft successfully transmitted a video of a cat to Earth from a record distance of 31 million kilometers. “Rambler” reports this with reference to the agency's press service.
This is the first time that ultra-high-definition video has been streamed from such a long distance. It is approximately 80 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon. The signal reached receivers on Earth in 101 seconds at a maximum data rate of 267 Mbit/s.
The experiment was conducted as part of testing NASA's new optical communications system, which will be used on future missions to the Moon, Mars and beyond. The report also said that increasing throughput is essential to achieving research goals.
