Beijing once again topped the ranking of the world's science cities in the Nature Index, which tracks the publication of articles in 82 high-quality research journals in the natural sciences. This is the seventh year in a row that the Chinese capital has taken first place in this ranking, reports Xinhua.

The top ten rankings also include the New York metropolitan area, Shanghai, Greater Boston, San Francisco Bay Area, Nanjing, Baltimore-Washington, Guangzhou, Greater Tokyo and Wuhan.

In addition to Beijing, nine more Chinese cities are among the 20 largest science cities in the world.

According to the latest statistics, Beijing ranks first in the world in the patent fund in the field of artificial intelligence. The Chinese capital also has an average of 218,3 patents for inventions per 10 thousand residents, which permitted it to take first place among the country's cities in this indicator.

“Beijing and other Asian cities are growing rapidly in science and technology innovation”, - said Tsinghua University Vice Chancellor Zeng Rong.
