In India, the army has launched an operation to rescue 41 workers who have remained trapped for 17 days in a partially collapsed tunnel in the state of Uttarakhand. Kazpravda.kz reports this with reference to Deutsche Welle.
Rescuers tried to dig a 60-meter-long hole to reach the victims, but on November 24, a giant drill delivered from the United States failed. The remaining 10 meters to the target will now be drilled manually by military engineers.
“This operation can take a long time. When you work in the mountains, everything is unpredictable. We never specified a time frame”, - explained National Disaster Management Authority spokesman Syed Ata Hasnain.
Rescuers maintain contact with workers through a specially drilled well. Through which workers receive food and medicine.
On November 12, a road tunnel collapsed in the mountains of Uttarakhand state in India, trapping 41 people under the rubble. The tunnel was built as part of the “Char Dham” transport project, under which an 825-km expressway is planned to be opened in the state.
