The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, held negotiations with the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea, Park Jin, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the 16th meeting of the “Central Asia-Republic of Korea” Cooperation Forum. This was reported by the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.
During the negotiations, the parties emphasized that the economic partnership between the countries is strategic, sustainable and long-term.
The foreign ministers of the two countries discussed priority areas of trade and economic cooperation. In particular, they discussed projects for creating an industrial cluster in the city of Arkadag and building gas chemical plants.
The parties discussed the purchase of electric vehicles and electric buses, investments in the introduction of the latest digital, infocommunication and other technologies in the construction of “smart” cities in Turkmenistan, the use of seawater desalination methods and innovations for the rational use of water resources.
Topics raised also included diversification of financing, studying Korean experience in green and hydrogen energy, and the creation of modern high-tech industries focused on producing competitive products.
Rashid Meredov and Park Jin noted the important role of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Korean Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation in expanding trade and economic ties.
In addition, the areas of education, science, learning the Korean language, healthcare and medicine were named as promising areas of cultural and humanitarian interaction.
Noting the importance of cultural exchanges and the successful holding of the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Korea in March, the parties emphasized the need for a worthy organization of the Korean Culture Week in November 2023 in Ashgabat.
