Overall, the average European gets rid of approximately 131 kilograms of unused food per year. Of this, about 70 kg is thrown away directly from homes, the rest is waste from restaurants and cafes, supermarkets and food production.

The most food is wasted in Belgium (up to 262 kg per person), and the least in Slovenia (68 kg). Russians, according to the Ministry of Nature of the Russian Federation, throw away on average up to 80 kg of food per year.

For example, in Finland you can buy restaurant food at a huge discount, which is left over at the end of the day and would otherwise end up in the trash. In Spain, visitors are strongly advised to take away uneaten food, and in Belgium, from next year, supermarkets will have to donate unclaimed food to charity. By 2030 in countries.

The European Union may be required by law to reduce food waste.
