From February 14, 2024, Bali will introduce a fee for foreign tourists of about 10 USD or 150 thousand Indonesian rupees. This was reported by Detik with reference to the Bali Tourism Authority.
The money raised from the collection will be used to solve the island's waste problems, as well as to “protect local traditions, customs, arts and culture” and “improve the quality of services”.
The fee will need to be paid once per trip - before entering the Love Bali online system or after, through the terminals of the Indonesian bank Bank Rakyat. Counters will be located, for example, at Denpasar Airport and the port in the Cape Benoa area. If the system fails, you can pay the fee at local hotels.
Initially, the Indonesian government discussed a higher fee, ranging from 30 to 100 USD. This would help the country weed out those tourists who “are not ready to spend and, as a rule, create many problems”, the tourism department said then.
In addition, from July 2023, tourists must also pay 100 thousand rupees (6,5 USD) if they plan to go scuba diving off Nusa Penida. The government uses this money to protect the environment.
