Neymar missed a penalty in the 17th minute; at the end of the match, the striker overtook Pele in the list of top scorers in the history of the Brazilian national team. Neymar now has 79 goals for the national team and has played 125 matches for the national team. Pelé scored 77 goals in 92 matches and played for the national team from 1957 to 1971.

In another match, the Uruguay team beat Chile at home with a score of 3:1. In the next round of the qualifying stage, the Brazilians will play away against the Peruvian team on September 13, and the Bolivians will host the Argentine national team the day before.
