The national leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated the current head of the neighboring state Shavkat Mirziyoyev on a convincing victory in the early presidential elections in Uzbekistan today by telephone, wishing well-being and prosperity to the fraternal Uzbek people, reports the press service of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
During a telephone conversation, the President of Uzbekistan and the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan exchanged views on the issues of the regional agenda, considered the schedule of upcoming bilateral events.
The interlocutors noted with deep satisfaction the progressive dynamics of the development of Uzbek-Turkmen relations of friendship, good neighborliness and strategic partnership in recent years. At the same time, the expansion of practical cooperation in the field of industry, energy, agriculture and other sectors was stated. Contacts along the parliamentary line and humanitarian exchanges have noticeably intensified.
As previously reported, in the presidential elections held on July 9, the current head of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev won 87,05 percent of the vote.
These were the first elections after the adoption of amendments to the Constitution of Uzbekistan based on the results of the referendum held on April 30, 2023.
Amendments to the Constitution of Uzbekistan provide for an increase in the term of office of the President from 5 to 7 years.
