The Republic of Korea is officially switching to the international system for calculating the age of a person, reports RIA Novosti.
In Korea, a special system for determining the age of a person has long been adopted - the countdown is not from the moment of actual birth, but from the moment of conception, therefore, according to the “Korean system”, a newly born child automatically turns 1 year old. Thus, according to this system, the age of a person becomes one year more than the real one. In addition to the “Korean”, the country also uses the usual age calculation system adopted throughout the world.
In December last year, the Korean Parliament adopted relevant changes aimed at unifying the age system and bringing it into line with the global one.
The difference in age calculation systems could cause confusion in the provision of various social benefits, medical and administrative services.
