Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov is actively recovering from a serious illness: the figure skater posted on his page on the social network a video of his training on an exercise bike, and the athlete is training on prostheses, which had to be resorted to after amputation of both feet.
Roman Kostomarov was hospitalized in January 2023 with symptoms of pneumonia. The treatment did not bring results, and the athlete had to be connected to a ventilator and put into a medically induced coma. Against the background of complications, he developed necrosis of the limbs. To stop the development of sepsis, the skater had to amputate the soles of his feet and several fingers on his hands. The recovery process took six months, after the amputation he started having problems with the vessels of the brain, hemorrhage occurred and a hematoma formed.
In May, Roman Kostomarov, for the first time in five months of fighting for his life, was able to independently address his subscribers on the social network, thanking them for their support and promising to continue fighting the consequences of the disease.
Currently, Kostomarov is undergoing the stage of prosthetics. There are no plans to discharge him from the clinic in the near future, rehabilitation will take some more time, as there were problems with tissue healing after the operation.
