The results of a working visit to Turkmenistan of a high-level delegation of the World Trade Organization, headed by the director of the WTO accession department, Maika Oshikawa, were considered today at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Watan information program of the Turkmen television reported.

As reported, WTO representatives held a number of meetings in the ministries of finance and economy, foreign affairs, trade and foreign economic relations, the Central Bank and the Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs, during which the prospects for further development of bilateral cooperation were considered.

According to the Work Plan for 2023-2024 to expand the country's interaction with the WTO Secretariat, Turkmenistan is actively working domestically to prepare a Memorandum on the foreign trade regime, the surrender of which is one of the conditions for joining the WTO.

After listening to the information, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that in the modern period, Turkmenistan faces the task of more intensive integration into the system of world economic relations. In order to effectively address it, Turkmenistan stepped up its further steps within the WTO and received the status of an “active observer” last year. This contributed to the continuation of comprehensive work in this direction, strengthening the country's position in foreign trade, increasing its international authority as a reliable and responsible partner, attracting foreign investment and, in general, expanding constructive cooperation with the World Trade Organization.

During the meeting, the head of state signed the Resolutions “On the establishment of a Working Group to develop a Memorandum on the Foreign Trade Order of Turkmenistan” and “On the Approval of the Structure of the Central Office of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan” and instructed to control the implementation of the measures indicated in the documents.
