The United States Senate approved the appointment of Elizabeth Rood as US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan. This was reported on the official website of the US Senate.

Rood's candidacy for the post of head of the diplomatic mission in Ashgabat was nominated by President Joe Biden in August 2022 when forming new appointments in the administration.

Elizabeth Rood is an experienced career diplomat with the rank of Minister Counsellor. Before that, she worked as Deputy US Ambassador in Moscow, and also held various positions in diplomatic missions in the CIS countries.

Rood was born in Cary, North Carolina. She holds a Master's degree from the University of Maryland at College Park and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Randolph-Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, Virginia. Speaks Russian, French, German, Pashto, Dari and Georgian.

The United States established diplomatic relations with Turkmenistan on February 19, 1992. Since 2019, the American diplomatic mission in Ashgabat has been headed by Ambassador Matthew Steven Klimow.
