On May 17, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev turns 70 years old. Press Secretary Ruslan Zheldibay earlier said that there would be no festive events on the occasion of the birthday of the head of state - this is the principled position of the President himself.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was born on May 17, 1953 in Almaty.

In 1975 he graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. In 1992 he was educated at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

In 1992 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 1994, he took the post of head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In October 1999, with the consent of Parliament, he was appointed Prime Minister by presidential decree. In January 2002, he resigned and was subsequently appointed Secretary of State - Minister of Foreign Affairs until January 2007. In this position, he played an active role in the field of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

In January 2007, he was elected Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament.

In March 2011, he was appointed UN Under-Secretary-General, Director-General of the UN Office in Geneva, as well as Personal Representative of the UN Secretary-General at the Conference on Disarmament.

On October 16, 2013, he was again elected Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Since March 20, 2019, he has been the current President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
