Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium Sapar Palvanov met with Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Kunio Mikuriya.

During the meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the WCO, located in Brussels, a ceremony of presenting the instrument on the accession of Turkmenistan to the International Convention on the Harmonized System for the Description and Coding of Goods was held.

“The WCO is an intergovernmental organization that seeks to improve the efficiency of customs administrations around the world. Its members are more than 180 countries, including Turkmenistan”, - the press service of the Turkmen diplomatic mission in Belgium said.

It was also noted that during the meeting, Palvanov and Mikuriya discussed issues of further development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the WCO.

The parties discussed the country's participation in WCO programs, including the career development program, which provides opportunities for training customs officials.

The Ambassador also spoke about the measures taken by Turkmenistan in the field of digitalization, including the launch of a single window system. These measures not only increase the efficiency of customs procedures, but also help to increase the transparency of customs and export-import operations.

The Secretary General expressed recognition to Turkmenistan for its efforts in modernizing customs procedures and expressed the readiness of the WCO to provide technical assistance and support to the country. He also noted that the accession of Turkmenistan to the WCO Convention on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System will further strengthen cooperation between the country and the organization.

It is also worth noting that in March of this year, the Law on Accession to the International Goods Coding Convention, signed by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, came into force in Turkmenistan.

The Convention on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System is aimed at promoting international trade, simplifying the collection, comparison and analysis of statistical data.
