During the Organizational session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), held on April 5, elections were held for the subsidiary bodies of the Council.
During the elections, ECOSOC members unanimously elected Turkmenistan as a member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) for the period 2024-2026, according to the website of the country's foreign ministry.
It should be noted that earlier Turkmenistan was elected and served as a member of the UNICEF Executive Board in 2018-2020.
Today, Turkmenistan is a member of 13 commissions, committees and councils of the United Nations. Turkmenistan has also been elected Vice-Chairman of the UN General Assembly seven times.
The message notes: “As a member of the Executive Board - the governing body of UNICEF, which provides intergovernmental support to the work of the Fund, Turkmenistan will take part in the review of UNICEF activities and the approval of its policies, country programs and funding. This will provide the Government of Turkmenistan with additional opportunities to participate in the coordination of the work of the Fund and exchange experience and national practice on the implementation of universally accepted goals to ensure the rights of children at the global level.”
