Exactly 50 years ago, on April 3, 1973, the world made the first call on a mobile phone, reports “Gazeta.ru” with reference to TRT World.

It is noted that the call was made by Motorola engineer Martin Cooper, who called Joel Angel, an employee of AT&T Bell Laboratories, to triumphantly announce that he was using “a personal, hand-held, portable phone”. The device from which Cooper called was an 800-gram Motorola DynaTAC phone.

It took 10 hours to fully charge the first mobile phone, while the battery lasted only 12 hours in standby mode. Half a century ago, the gadget could only make and receive calls - there was not even a word about SMS messages.

The commercial version of Martin Cooper's prototype, the Motorola Dynatac 8000X, was released 11 years after the historic bell in 1984. According to the director of the Museum of Mobile Phones Ben Wood, if you recalculate its cost taking into account the current exchange rate, it cost the buyer 11,7 thousand USD.
