Specialists of the World Health Organization have published a list of recommendations for those who adhere to the rules of the annual Muslim fast, writes Kun.uz.

According to the WHO, fasting during the holy month of Ramadan can help with health problems such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and being overweight.

It is recommended to consume more water between iftar and suhoor to avoid dehydration and replenish fluid loss throughout the day. Any juicy fruits and vegetables are also suitable, for example, watermelons, cucumbers, tomatoes.

Caffeinated beverages (coffee, tea, energy drinks, cola) should be avoided as they have a diuretic effect, which can increase dehydration. Soups and broths are very useful.

During suhoor, it is better to eat foods that are easily digestible: fermented milk products (cottage cheese, kefir, ayran), eggs or scrambled eggs, vegetables, herbal teas.

The traditional start of iftar in many countries is to eat a few dates. They start work in the intestines, as they contain a large amount of fiber. During iftar, it is not recommended to lean on fatty, fried and heavy foods for the stomach, sweets and pickles. It is better to give preference to boiled, baked or stewed dishes, as well as fruits and dried fruits.

It is not recommended to fast for people suffering from type 1 diabetes; for type 2 diabetes, consultation with the attending endocrinologist is mandatory. It is also necessary to consult a doctor for pregnant and lactating women.
