The British Museum wants to ban the use of the word “mummy”, as it can be offensive to the inhabitants of Ancient Egypt, writes “MIR 24”.
According to museum staff, the word “mummy” has recently been associated with monsters from horror films through the efforts of filmmakers, which discredits the ancient Egyptians.
Now instead of “mummy” the phrase “mummified person” or “mummified remains” will be used. The National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, the Museum of the Great North in Newcastle and others are also ready to join the initiative of the British Museum.
