Jokes about Hodja Nasreddin are included in the UNESCO representative list, reports the press service of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan.

Hodja Nasreddin (Molla Ependi, Afendi Hodjanasyr, Molla Nasreddin) is a folklore character of the countries of the East and Central Asia, known throughout the world for his witty statements, the hero of humorous and satirical miniatures and anecdotes. It is not known for certain whether this person lived in reality, only indirect facts indicate this (for example, a tombstone in the Turkish city of Aksehir).

Anecdotes and stories about Hodja Nasreddin are distinguished by wisdom, subtle humor and accurate satire. Many of them have become the basis of sayings and popular expressions.

The Telling tradition of Nasreddin Hodja/ Molla Nesreddin/ Molla Ependi/ Apendi/ Afendi Kozhanasyr Anecdotes nomination, according to which the legacy of Nasreddin Hodja was proposed for consideration by the UNESCO commission, was presented jointly by Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Türkiye and Turkmenistan - countries where stories about Hodja Nasreddin are especially popular.

The stories about Hodja Nasreddin were included in the UNESCO representative list during the regular session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which was held from November 28 to December 3 in Morocco.
